Monster 'universal' glasses

August 31, 2010 — Article

Cable manufacturer Monster has confirmed the release of its ’world’s first’ universal 3D glasses in late September.

The Monster Vision Max 3D glasses will be distinctive because Monster claims they will be able to work with any brand of active shutter 3D TV. Other 3D glasses made by TV manufacturers are not necessarily compatible with other brands of TV because the shutter technology they use is implemented in slightly different ways.

The Monster glasses come with a 2.4GHz radio-frequency transmitter, which the company claims offers gives more reliability than the infrared system used by the TV manufacturers. They’re powered by lithium polymer rechargeable batteries and can be updated with new firmware via USB connection if 3D standards change in the future.

Monster says its design should fit all head sizes and can even be worn over prescription glasses.

The Monster Max 3D kit includes a transmitter and a single pair of 3D glasses for £165, with additional pairs of glasses available for around £115 each.
