The Rotel RCX-1500 is a one-box hi-fi system including CD player, stereo amp DAB radio tuner and networked internet receiver.

The new system shares technology and components with the Japanese manufacturer’s flagship 15 series for what it describes as “one of the most flexible, high performance, single chassis stereo components available today”.

The DAC is the same Wolfson model used in Rotel’s RCD-1520 CD player with 24-bit/192kHz decoding. The amplifier uses Rotel’s own cool-running Class D design and offers 100 watts per channel with the ability to power speakers down to four ohms.

The tuner section includes FM, DAB and over 15,000 internet radio stations with 30 presets. There’s also the option of a wired connection to a Wi-Fi home network or a wireless USB to Ethernet dongle (802.11b/g) which is supplied. The USB port can also be used as a digital connection for iPods or other MP3 players.

With UPnP support the RCX-1500 can also be used to stream audio from a computer and Rotel says it’s optimised for Windows Media Player 11 (or 12 with Windows 7). Supported codecs include RealAudio, WMA, MP3, AAC & AAC+ (non DRM), AU, WAV and AIFF.

The CD player meanwhile is based on Rotel’s RCD-1520 and there’s an RS-232 port for system control and bi-directional feedback.

The Rotel RCX-1500 will go on sale in October for £1,195.
