Yamaha has announced the TSX-140 desktop sound system and alarm clock.

The new device features a retro look with large illuminated control knobs for source, volume and radio presets.

It includes an integrated iPod/iPhone dock mounted on one side, plus built in DAB/FM/AM radio and can play back audio via USB stick.

Inside are two 3.5in ported bass reflex speakers and Yamaha digital amplifiers, as well as Yamaha’s ‘Concert Quality Sound’ concept that claims to ‘virtually eliminate’ all unnecessary noise and distortion. Extended Stereo uses Yamaha’s DSP surround sound technology to create a wider sound field from the compact box.

The alarm system uses Yamaha’s IntelliAlarm technology to wake you gently by first filtering out uncomfortable high frequencies, then gradually restoring the full audio spectrum before beeping to make sure you’re awake.

It can play back MP3 and WMA files stored on a USB stick, and can charge your iPod/iPhone while it’s plugged in.

Inspired by natural colours and echoing ceramic art, the TSX-140 comes in black, brick or grey and will be on sale from February for £299.
