Swiss specialist hi-fi brand Nagra, has announced two new amplifiers based around the legendary 300B valve.

Nagra 300i and 300p pre/power amps

Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the company first showed its 300B-based amp prototype at last year’s CES and has now unveiled the 300i integrated amplifier and 300p power amp.

The 300B triode valve, which dates back to 1938, is included in both devices. Using a push-pull configuration to provide 20 watts per channel, both devices are built by hand with circuitry using multilayer epoxy-glass boards with gold-plated tracks to military specifications.

The 300i comes with four inputs (three RCA phonos, one XLR), high-quality relay switching, and volume and balance controls with motorised Alps Blue Velvet potentiometers. There’s also a remote control.

Each of the amps is encased in anodised aluminium casework, the valves covered with Pyrex sleeves, and sit on Nagra VFS vibration-absorbing plates. Soft-start circuitry cushions the valves on start-up and there’s self-diagnosing protection which monitors for short circuits or output overload.

Both units will be available later this year, distributed in the UK by RT Services.
