CES 2011: Panasonic’s 3D web TVs

January 08, 2011 — Article

Panasonic claims the internet is the future for TV and is doing its bit with its latest range of web-friendly tellies.

Panasonic VT30

Panasonic is predicting that as much as 40 per cent of TVs sold in 2011 will be internet-connected – twice the number sold in 2010.

Viera Connect, once known as Viera Cast, will actively encourage developers and brands to create iPhone-style apps for TVs for delivery via the Viera Connect Market. It will also deliver more video and music streaming opportunities and more social networking as well as gaming.

The DT30 series (as it’s currently being called, though it may change by the time the ranges are revealed in their UK incarnation next month), is the company’s first 3D-capable LCD screens and will come in fairly compact packages of 32in and 37in. It’s Wi-Fi-ready with DLNA 240Hz Motion Picture Pro 5 processing and an IPS Alpha LED panel.

The ST30 plasma series offers sizes from 42in to 65in and promises full HD 3D, an Infinite Black 2 Panel and a 600Hz Sub-field drive.

The GT30 (50in-65in plasma) offers a similar spec with THX certification and a 3D image viewer while the VT30 (55 and 65in) offers much the same in a sleeker looking package with a one-sheet glass panel.

There will also be an X3 range, designed to offer an entry-level incentive to the plasma curious, with 2D 720p HD resolution, ‘Easy IPTV’ web connection and DLNA in 42-50in sizes.
