Short for Advanced Optical Disc HD-DVD format that is developed jointly by Toshiba
and NEC. AOD is one of the main competitors for the implementation of such
HD-DVD technology, along with Blu-ray.
AOD uses a 405nm-wavelength
blue-violet laser
technology, when traditional red laser DVD formats use 650nm-wavelength. It has a storage
capacity
of 20GB on a single-layer disc.
