ISOL-8 VMC1080 mains conditioner for TV

November 04, 2009 — Article

It’s not much of a looker, but Brit power-conditioning firm ISOL-8’s new VMC1080 mains conditioner claims to be able to improve the picture from LCD and plasma screens, as well as projectors.

The company says that its first video product not only protects your TV from mains spikes, but can also improve the picture by filtering out ambient noise from the mains and other equipment.

ISOL-8 says that while there is already interference on the mains when it comes into the home, and that the modern household has a lot of equipment able to further pollute the supply. Dimmers, fridges and other devices can all add local noise, ISOL-8 claims, while radio devices such as Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth units and baby alarms can add radiated noise, and even power amps and AV receivers can add to the power supply din.

While the effects can vary between different models, the company claims that this noise “can affect the black-levels, actual picture noise levels, contrast, movement and more. 1080p HD signals suffer the most, but even SD signals can be improved. Generally the larger the display, the better the visible results. Often these negative effects are not really noticed until they are removed, and removing them can be a revelation.”

The small box unit is designed to be mounted on a wall or the back of the screen using a supplied kit. It comes complete an IEC-to-IEC connecting lead.

The ISOL-8 VMC1080 is available now for £189.
