Genelec new 4000 series (ISE2010)

January 28, 2010 — Article

Active speaker specialist Genelec is due to debut its new 4000 series speakers at ISE 2010 in Amsterdam next week. The 4020A and 4030A are both two-way active loudspeakers based on the company’s 8000 design.

Aimed primarily at the home and commercial installation markets, the speakers include ‘Phoenix’ screw terminals which promise ‘an easy and secure connection, delivering interference-free, professional quality sound’. Each of the drivers is electronically protected against signal peaks and system misuse and there’s a ‘Room Response’ control system with calibrated bass tilt, treble tilt and bass roll-off, which allow the sound to be optimised to fit the room layout. No word yet on price or release date.

Genelec will also use ISE 2010 to demonstrate its new ‘audio over IP’ technology. The wireless system is designed to transport uncompressed, high-quality audio over a standard, existing LAN network. The new system, intended primarily for the custom install market, apparently enables accurate synchronization of loudspeakers on the network to create complex, multichannel IP-based audio systems and reduce cabling costs.
