Genelec 8260A Three-Way DSP Loudspeaker System

March 19, 2010 — Article

Finnish pro audio manufacturer Genelec will be demonstrating its new high-end loudspeaker at Frankfurt’s Prolight + Sound show next week.

The Genelec 8260A is a three-way DSP system featuring the company’s MDC (Minimum Diffraction Coaxial) combined mid/high driver technology, and promises excellent off-axis audio quality.

It uses Genelec’s DSP signal processing system for all its loudspeaker functions, such as the crossover filters, driver equalisers, driver position alignment, room response alignment, calibration, and equalisation-related filters as well as distance-compensating delays. The Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software manages all these functions allowing the 8260A to be integrated with other 8200 Series DSP monitors and 7200 series subwoofers in the same set-up.

The Genelec AutoCal automated room calibration and sound system alignment method promises to allow it to make the best of whatever room it’s placed in.

It comes in a die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE), which is claimed to be immune to vibrations and comes with acoustically optimised rounded edges to prevent diffractions. The monitor is decoupled from the mounting interface to avoid potential colouration of the sound and it can be wall as well as stand mounted.

The Genelec 8260A is available now for around £3,400.
