Optoma Pico PK102 pocket projector

Projector specialist Optoma has launched a follow-up to its Pico PK101 projector. The brand new PK102 has received several upgrades and now sports 4GB of onboard memory, and can now be plugged directly into a laptop’s VGA socket.

It’s battery life is promised to be about 1.5 hours, so not really enough for a feature length film, though you can also run it from the mains. Optoma says it will play “virtually all media formats” including avi, wmv, asf, 3gp, 3g2, dat, mpg, mpeg, mov, mp4, m4v, rm, rmvb, ogm and flv. It can beam an image of up to 60 inches, and has a 1000:1 contrast ratio.

The pocket-sized device measures just 50 x 103×15mm and weighs 115g. Optoma says its bulb should last 20,000 hours before it will need replacing and it has its own 0.5-watt speaker.

The Optoma Pico PK102 will be available later this month for £230.
