Panasonic TVs to offer 3D conversion

August 31, 2010 — Article

Panasonic has created two new 3D TVs with built-in conversion from 2D to 3D. The TVs are so far only available in the US.

While the function already exists in 3D TVs from Samsung and Sony, these models will be the first Panasonics to include the technology. Both the 42in TC-P42G25 ($1,700) and the 50in TC-P50GT25 ($2,100) Viera models are expected to go on sale towards the end of August, with the technology likely to follow in Europe later in the year.

The decision to implement the technology into Panasonic’s range comes as something of a surprise, since the company’s senior vice president had previously stated that there were no plans to include it. Early adopters of Panasonic’s V Series 3D plasmas may also have a right to be miffed, since those models will miss out on a potentially desirable feature.
