Quad 11L Classic loudspeaker

Veteran Brit hi-fi brand Quad has announced a new bookshelf speaker with the 11L Classic, promising enhanced performance and better value for money.

Quad 11L Classic

The Classic is the latest version of Quad’s longstanding 11L compact loudspeaker and the company claims that the new version improves on the 2002 original in almost every way.

The 125mm Kevlar mid/bass driver now has an uprated motor system which Quad claims improves linearity and delivers a reduction in midband and bass distortion levels, allowing the 11L Classic to deliver higher volume levels than before.

The 25mm fabric dome tweeter has also been upgraded, with a shallow ʻwaveguideʼ affixed to the front baffle which controls the dispersion of the dome to mimic that of the midrange cone through the crossover region, which greatly reduces any chance of audible overlap between the drive units.

The crossover too has been enhanced to make it smoother, with each section placed on its own PCB (Printed Circuit Board) mounted separately within the speaker cabinet.

The cabinet retains the same 31 x 19×24cm compact dimensions as its predecessor but as well as the original’s high-gloss real-wood veneers there’s now also the option of non-lacquered wood veneers, which allows the price to drop by £50.

The Quad 11L Classic loudspeaker will be available from late September for £330 (classic veneer) or £380 (lacquered veneer).
