KEF has announced its new R range of speakers, which uses technology created for the company’s concept Blade speakers.

KEF R series

The new range will sit in between KEF’s Q series and its Reference range, effectively replacing the XQ series.

The KEF R range will include a pair of standmount speakers, three floorstanders, a subwoofer and a choice of two centre speakers and a dipole surround speaker if preferred. They’ll all be available in a choice of Rosewood or Walnut veneers or a piano-black high-gloss finish.

The KEF R100 standmount is a two-way design that stands 28cm-high, while the larger R300 is a three-way measuring 38.5cm. Both include aluminium tweeters and the midrange/bass drivers use KEF’s Uni-Q driver array.

The R series floorstanders are all three-way designs. The R500 stands 1m tall and includes two 5.25in bass drivers and a 5in midrange driver, the 1.1m R700 increases the two woofers to 6.5in and the top-of-the-range 1.2m R900 has two 8in bass drivers and a 5.25in midrange unit.

The R200c and R600c centre speakers are both three-way designs measuring 53cm and 63cm respectively. The R200c uses a 1in tweeter, a 5in midrange and a pair of 5.25 woofers while the R600c has 6.5in woofers.

The R800ds is a three-way dipole surround speaker with two Uni-Q 1in/5.25in arrays and the R400b subwoofer can churn out 500 watts of class D amplification from its 9in driver and 36.5 x 33×35cm frame.

The KEF R series will officially be released in the UK on 10 October, prices TBC.
