Manchester Show 2011: Simple Audio streaming system

October 25, 2011 — Article

Simple Audio showed off its upcoming multiroom streaming system and announced that it should be hitting the shelves in December.

Simple Audio system

The company was founded by ex-Linn employees with the idea of developing a new PowerLine multiroom audio system, which makes use of your existing electrical power cabling to pass audio around your home without the need for a Wi-Fi network.

Using the power cabling should provide a more robust connection than wireless systems, and incidentally allows the transmission of 24-bit audio files. The system will be able to connect to the internet via Ethernet cable for access to internet radio, music streaming services and software updates. It will also be able to play back music from your computer and other attached devices such as iPod, iPhone or TV.

There’s a stereo amplifier on board, but you’ll need to connect your own pair of speakers. There are also line input/output phono sockets, a front-mounted line in socket, USB port, optical and electrical digital outputs, subwoofer out and headphone socket. It will play back MP3, AIFF, FLAC, WAV, AAC (MPEG4), Apple Lossless and 24-bit audio.

The basic Simple Audio system should be available from December for £650.
