French speaker maker Focal showed off its XS Book Music System, which it’s calling “the ultimate computer 2.0 system, and a true mini monitor”.

The ‘master’ speaker on the right includes a 2 x 20-watt amplifier, a 3.5mm stereo jack, volume control and on/standby switch. It also has RCA inputs for connecting the speakers together.

Both master and slave speakers have a 10cm Polyglass mid/bass driver and a 19mm aluminium tweeter, and can be used with a computer, portable music player or even to improve the sound of a TV.

The company, which recently merged with Naim, was also spreading the word on its Little Bird, Bird and Super Bird 2.1 systems, last glimpsed at February’s Bristol Show. These combine an integrated amplifier and subwoofer unit with a pair of Bird satellite speakers. They can be joined by an optional iTransmitter Kleer dongle for wireless streaming of music from iPhones, iPads or iPods. Both should be with us soon at prices somewhere between £700 to £1,000.

The Focal XS Book should go on sale before Christmas for around £300.
