Quad has hailed its latest ‘L’ series loudspeakers as Instant Classics.

The new 23L and 25L floorstanders are designed to build on the success of the original Quad ‘L’ series, a range which prides itself on its ‘honest’ sonic signature.

The new loudspeakers employ Quad’s innovative down-firing auxiliary bass radiator (ABR) technology. This approach provides extended low bass response without the turbulence inherent in typical bass reflex designs – or the low sensitivity and narrow dynamic range often found in sealed-box designs.

The 23L is a three-way design, measuring up just below the one-metre mark and housing the Classic L range’s 25mm fabric dome tweeter. A 125mm woven Kevlar cone handles midrange duties and an identically sized driver looks after mid/bass operations.

The 25L range-topper uses the same pleasing tweeter, but incorporates a brace of 125mm drivers to deliver midrange, as well as a muscular pair of 165mm bass drivers for far-reaching lower frequencies.

Quad’s promise is that the drive units’ sound is unblemished by their housing cabinets, claiming that the high density chipboard and fibreboard used for the cabinet bodies less prone to vibration than traditional MDF). These new models aim to “produce the closest approach to the original sound”.

On the aesthetic front, the wood veneers are carefully selected for their grain structure, then laid and hand polished. Available in four finishes overall – non-lacquered cherry or piano black provide the price entry point for both models, while the elegant lacquered versions also come in cherry or piano black.

The Quad 23L and 25L are available now. Prices start at £1,300 for the 23L and £1,750 for the 25L.
