ISE 2013: Sony reveals its first Laser Light Source Projector

The Japanese giant claims the new installation-grade Laser Light Source Projector will have the brightest output in its class.

Sony Laser Light Source Projector

Sony’s latest may not be the world’s first laser projector, but the company is claiming that it’s the first to feature a 3LCD laser – that should be enough to put its 4,000-lumen brightness and 1920 x 1200 ratio ahead of the rest, and help with visibility in boardrooms that tend to leak light.

With the newly developed BrightEra 3LCD technology, Sony says the projector should offer up to 20,000 hours maintenance free projection time, depending on the environment and setup conditions. So users shouldn’t need to change bulbs as often as they would with a standard projector and it should be kinder to the environment.

By using lasers instead of LEDs the theory is that it should be able to deliver more brightness with less effort. White light, similar to traditional UHP light sources, is directed into the 3LCD engine, therefore creating substantially brighter images, better contrast ratios and improved colour stability.

The Sony Laser Light Source Projector should be available for businesses and colleges in summer 2013.
