B&W Improve Performance With Custom 600 and 700 Series in Wall and Ceiling Speakers (ISE 2010)

February 17, 2010

Highlights

With a wide range of custom speaker designs the new 600 series Custom products from B&W introduce a new wall mount that offers an easy two part system for mounting the speaker.

A new concept frame is connected to the cables and the frame is a push fit into the cut out on the wall. A revolutionary six clip system holds the frame tight in the wall without screws. You then place the speaker into the frame and the bracket has a female interface by the speaker terminal that makes the connection to the speaker. There are two screws that hold the speaker to the frame but these are push in screws, so again no screwdriver is needed to fit it. The process takes less than a minute to fit and will greatly assist the installer.

There are three wall models that are square shape and there is an accessory to help match other round speakers in the range.

The square grill option utilises a square back plate that is placed behind the round speakers as you place them in the ceiling mount. It fits flush and uses magnetic contacts to hold it in place allowing you to match all the speakers without replacing the speakers themselves.

The 700 series has three new ceiling speaker designs that are constructed using a glass filled ABS material that allows different cabinet shapes during the moulding process thus assisting in design appeal and performance. The 700 series offer a 2-way, 2.5-way and a 3-way design that uses the FST midrange unit.

Also previewing is the larger wall mounted 700 series units starting with the smaller 7.5, then 7.4 and finally a full 3-way designed 7.3. All of the designs feature a new integrated back box and an optional extra resonant box for additional bass. This larger air capacity assists the flow of air allowing the use of a reflex port to maximise and control the bass response.
