January 08, 2011 — Article

Sony announced more additions to its range of 3D Blu-ray systems and players.

Sony BDP-S580

Top of the heap is the BDP-S780, a fully networked player with Skype video conferencing and Homeshare Wi-Fi. Though confirmed for the US, it’s not yet clear if this model will be coming to the UK.

Definitely coming to Blighty later this year however is the BDP-S580, which includes 3D capability, Wi-Fi, DLNA networking connectivity, a brace of USB inputs and Quickstart technology. It’s joined by the BDP-S480 and the BDP-S380, which has internet connectivity but can only play 2D material. Wi-Fi can be added via an optional USB adapter.

Each of the three new Blu-ray players offers access to the Bravia Internet Video online store as well as Sony’s Qriocity service which lets you view films and listen to over six million songs.

Also announced from Sony is a range of Blu-ray home cinema systems, all of which are 3D-capable. They include the BDV-E280, BDV-E380, BDV-E880 and BDV-E780W. The last three come with ‘3D surround sound’ technology, while the ’E780W includes built-in Wi-Fi and wireless rear speakers.

All come with improved iPod/iPhone docking, as well as free iPhone and Android apps so you can use your smart phone as a remote control.
