Bowers & Wilkins has announced the CM8 floorstanding loudspeaker, a more compact version of the CM9.

Bowers & Wilkins CM8

The CM8 boasts a slimmer profile to its big brother, with the company saying it enjoys a similar footprint to the CM1 bookshelf speaker.

At 96cm tall and just 16.5cm wide, the CM8 will replace the long-standing CM7. It’s a three-way design, with a single 130mm woven Kevlar cone FST midrange driver, and a pair of 130mm paper/Kevlar cone woofers. Above these is a 25mm aluminium dome tweeter which uses B&W’s Nautilus tube-loaded technology.

It uses minimalist first-order crossovers, and B&W says the use of longer voice coils and larger magnets than those used in the 600 Series offers greater punch and attack, but with less distortion.

The Bowers & Wilkins CM8 will be available from November in a choice of white, black, rosenut or wenge finishes for £1,250.
