July 26, 2011 — Article

Sony has announced three new portable video players and a new budget-level audio-only device.

Sony Walkman NWZ-A860

Top of the range is the Walkman NWZ-A860 which includes S-Master MX digital amplifier, 2.8in LCD touchscreen, and wireless Bluetooth connectivity.

Below it are the NWZ-S760 and NWZ-E460 models, which have a slightly smaller 2in display.

The NWZ-A860 comes in a range of sizes: 64GB, 32GB, 19GB and 8GB, while the NWZ-S760 comes in 16GB or 8GB flavours (with Bluetooth) while the NWZ-E460 offers 8GB or 4GB (but no Bluetooth).

Sony claims the NWZ-A860’s battery should give you 23 hours of sustained audio and five hours for video, while the other two should each give you 50 hours (audio) and ten hours (video).

All of them can play MP3, WMA, AAC and linear PCM files, as well as MPEG4, H.264/AVC and WMV9 video.

Sony’s MediaGo software makes it easy to sync or drag-and-drop your tracks, videos and photos from Windows Explorer or iTunes but there’s no web connectivity or apps.

All the new Walkmans are due on sale by the end of August. Prices tbc.
